Denver Fish (3)

Here's another of my series from the Denver Aquarium a few weeks ago.

  1. Great photo of a lionfish (sometimes called a zebra fish, scorpion fish, or stinging cod). They are originally Indo-Pacific in origin, but have become established in the Caribbean, and along the U.S. east coast probably from people letting them go from aquariums. They are a threat to Atlantic commercial fish such as snapper and grouper as they eat the young of these species. They have no natural predator in the Caribbean or Atlantic. Their striking looks make them good for aquariums and photographers.
