For Sunday Scans, here's an old scan of the city of Dubrovnik, in what was then Yugoslavia and is now Croatia. We were there when I was a kid back in 1977, and for the next few weeks I'll be posting the few photos that are worth publishing from that trip, which are all scanned from slides. I have fond memories of this trip; I was very sad during the 1990s wars when I read that the city was being shelled. I'd love to go back again.
Please visit the Sunday Scans meme for more old photos.

What a great view! Were you on a plane? My grade school friend was half yougoslavian and I remember being shocked when the war started. Looks like a wonderful place in your photo :-)

ReplyDeleteLooks like a mini great wall of China
Yes, it is high. It was 5 stories high. The minimum you don't need an elevator. These are foreign Thai workers. Life there is cheap, if they fall and die, the family gets a small compensation.
ReplyDeleteI was looking for a photo which shows the apartment block. But too many photos and in too many computers. I will do it another time.
We were lucky, my husband was a professor, we didn't have to stay in tall apartment blocks. We were a double storey maisonette. We chose the upstairs, where snakes can't come.
I\ve been up there, too! Haha! Fun to see..! :)) You were there as a child?? I was there about 1978, 79 and 80, 83.. and 86.. I think.. :))
ReplyDeleteYes me to I was very sad when I heard about the war..
