More Cloud & Ground Lightning

In one of our many summer thunderstorms, I got several photos which included close cloud-to-cloud lightning and more distant cloud-to-ground lightning. I posted one of these a few weeks ago, and here's another. (In fact, this one includes two ground strikes, but one of them is rather faint.)
And from a more recent storm where I got several nice shots, here's some lightning flaring across the sky.
It's been a good summer for lightning photos - if you like them stay tuned because I've got lots more. And for more sky-themed photos, visit the awesome Skywatch Friday meme.

  2. Your lightening captures have really been awesome, Al! The second shot is really amazing to me as I don't think I've seen lateral lightening like these -- or perhaps they were just too small and quick for me to see them. Hope your week is going well!

  12. Some day I hope to get some images of lightening. First I will need a thunderstorm, something which has been lacking in my part of the world of late.

  13. I love other people's captures of lightning, but you won't catch me outside photographing it. I've been within 50 feet of lightning and I'm a little gun shy these days.
    Great captures though. Happy skywatching.

  19. This is amazing shots and I would like to learn to take pictures like this one day.. Just wonderful!

Thanks for you nice comment about Tatras.
I have seen your beautiful mountains, but did not know you lived so far up in height. So exciting! Tatra mountains, can be recommend (but, we have at least as beautiful places in Norway, hehe), only a little crowded in August.

    Happy weekend to you!:-)

  20. Beautiful but eerie -- Although I hate to admit it, I'm a little bit afraid of lightening -- don't see it often enough to get used to it.

RE: I never saw a windmill lit up like that

This is done for a special event.
In September, nine nights illuminated mill and farm route on Goeree-Overflakkee
Between 1 and 17 September, 2011 is the illuminated windmill and farm route.
Reason for this is the South Holland theme Long live the Mills!
Hence, all twelve mills on the island will be illuminated.

    Greetings, Bram
