Across from the famous Arch in St. Louis is the old courthouse.
It is most well known for the infamous Dred Scott case, in which the Supreme Court decided that no person of African ancestry could claim citizenship in the United States.
Some of the courts have been preserved.

An impressive building with great historical significance.
ReplyDeleteI love looking in old government buildings. This one is very nice.
ReplyDeleteThat courthouse is stunning, especially its dome.
ReplyDeleteGreat captures for the day, Al!! Hope you have a wonderful new week!! Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteA gorgeous building. But imagine being forced somewhere and then having no rights once you got there. I wonder if it is a coincidence that the name Dred sounds much like the dreadful decision the man endured.
ReplyDeleteit is interesting to learn something about St. Louis through you lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteThe blue/green dome is pretty eye-catching.

ReplyDeleteGreat pics.
I love the 2nd shot in your series. Great perspective on the door below. I'd not heard of the Dred Scott case. So was it overturned or something or now unconstitutional?
ReplyDeleteGreat photos as always and I too love that blue dome!
ReplyDeleteHappy Week to you,
artmusedog and carol

ReplyDeleteNeat to see it, Al. Most people don't know where the case was tried, including ME, and it was interesting to get this bit of history....lovely courthouse!
